 Oconomowoc woman's murder

CITY OF MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Police Department is seeking the public's help to solve the five-month-old murder of an Oconomowoc woman.

Karen Simek was gunned down at about 6 a.m. Jan. 31 outside her workplace, Garden Fresh Foods, 726 S. 12th St. Her killer remains at large. 

Members of the Milwaukee Police Department held a news conference on June 29 to ask for anyone with information to step forward, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Police said surveillance video shows the suspect walking past multiple pedestrians.

Officers at the press conference described the killer as 22 to 27 years old with a light complexion, small build and a short afro, the Journal-Sentinel reported. Investigators believe he is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 140 to 150 pounds.

Simek was carrying a gray or tan Duluth Trading Co. tote bag that was 13x15 inches, which the suspect took before shooting Simek dead. 

Milwaukee police said the man was seen loitering between on West National Avenue between South 12th and South 17th streets, the Journal-Sentinel reported. During that time, police said the man walked past multiple pedestrians.

In February, the Milwaukee Police Department released a dark, grainy photo of a man suspected of the murder. The photo appears to be from the 1600 block of West National Avenue, about four blocks away from where the shooting took place. The time on the photo says it was taken at 5:22 a.m. Jan. 31, about a half-hour before the slaying.

Simek was a food technologist at Garden-Fresh Foods, which supplies deli salads, dips and desserts to retailers, according to its website.
